We may cover around 1 km in a 1-hour taster session. The session uses mindfulness techniques (although no previous experience of mindfulness is needed) as we move slowly under the canopy of the woodland. You will use your senses to help you slow down and connect with nature. So, for example, you may be guided to listen to the woodland noises e.g. birdsong and/or rustling of the trees. We might also move around or sit and touch moss or the bark of a tree. These are just some examples and all activities are entirely voluntary. In a 1-hour session, we are likely to use two to three senses. You will be encouraged to slow down your breathing, which can help us both relax and also breath in the chemicals released from trees, which are beneficial to our health. I can tell you more about this at the session. We will spend the majority of the session in silence to help us relax as much as possible, but there will be some chances to share, if you would like to.Towards the end of the session, we find a quiet place to either sit or lie down for a longer relaxation exercise. After which, there is a final opportunity to share with the group, should you wish, and then we will make our way back to the car park.
