We are passionate about providing individualised care to all of our patients by carefully listening to their story, discussing their lifestyles and exploring their expectations and goals right from the start.

Our primary aim is to empower our patients to self-manage, restoring their confidence in their body so they can do the things they value.

Move and Improve Physiotherapy are excited to be a part of The Oak House Studio & Therapies and are looking forward to bringing excellent quality physiotherapy to The Wellness Centre.

A little about us

Kate Montgomery

Kate qualified as a physiotherapist in 1987 and between having 3 children she has worked as a physiotherapist ever since. She qualified as a member of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) in 1991, having achieved the standard of excellence required in the management of Musculoskeletal conditions. Kate then spent four years working at the Royal Free Hospital in London where she first met Dionne.

In 2003, Kate started Move & Improve in St Albans and combines this with working as a visiting senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire.

Dionne Ryder

Dionne qualified as a physiotherapist in 1989. She then completed an MSc in Manipulative Therapy which led to membership of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) in 1995. She has additional experience of working for a Division 1 rugby union team including pitch side and evening clinics with experience in acute sports injury management and rehabilitation.

In 1997 she joined the Physiotherapy department at the University of Hertfordshire, initially teaching undergraduate students before moving into post graduate physiotherapy education in 2005. Over the years, in between having her two daughters, she continued to combine both academic and clinical roles, working alongside Kate.

Reviews

"I met Kate having been suffering with ever worsening constant sciatic pain throughout my left leg for 6 months. Her careful, kind and professional treatment really challenged what I believed could be achieved. 10 weeks later I am pain free and have returned from a sking holiday that I was sure I would have to cancel. All I have had to do was act on Kate's expert coaching. Kate - you're amazing"!

"Kate is one of the rare physiotherapists who not only look at the specific injury but also take an holistic view to treatment taking into consideration lifestyle and well-being and well as physical health. She is innovative in her treatment and our discussions often involve up-to-date or current thinking around topics to aid recovery"

"I received the most amazing service and treatment from Dionne at Move to Improve. Dionne did the most thorough and comprehensive pre-treatment assessment (on zoom!) I have ever received and asked me questions about so many different aspects of my lifestyle which I felt gave her a real sense of the context in which my injury occurred. The in-person treatment sessions identified underlying causes. The rehab program was so thoroughly explained and after every session I received a meticulously detailed summary. Dionne patiently explained that I needed to build my body’s capacity to take the load and not do what she called ‘boom and bust’. I saw huge improvements with pain levels dramatically reduced in severity and frequency. Dionne regularly and proactively followed up with me by email to check in with how the recovery was going and suggested adaptions in written instructions based on my feedback. Really exceptional service. I am now back to regular running with no pain".
